I
began my filmmaking career in 1977 after completing the
Professional Filmmaker’s Workshop at NYU in the summer of 1977. It
was the summer of Son of Sam and the big New York Blackout. It all
made for a very memorable summer in my life. I returned to North
Carolina and begin pursuing my career. I ended it up working in
Shelby, NC for the next couple of years at Earl Owensby Studios.
There, I was a grip and a key grip on five low-budget feature
films. The films were by no means blockbusters but it turned out to
be a great learning ground for developing my
craft.
